[ARCHIVED] Public Notice

COVID-19 March 16, 2020 Update

Camden County and the Cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine have joined with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Schools, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, and Southeast Georgia Health System to form a unified response to the potential impacts of COVID-19 on Camden County citizens.

Following Emergency Declarations from both President Trump and Governor Kemp, the Camden County Board of Commissioners have issued a Precautionary Declaration of Public Health Emergency to allow for certain emergency measures.

In accordance with Governor Kemp’s guidance and to best prioritize student and staff safety, effective Tuesday, March 17th, Camden County Schools will be closed indefinitely. Distance learning will commence on Wednesday, March 18th and all schools and school buildings will remain closed as of March 18th and until further notice. More details will be available on the Camden County Schools website.

As COVID-19 continues to have a major impact on the State of Georgia with the number of confirmed cases increasing by 50% between Saturday and Sunday, it is important to take preemptive actions to avoid large numbers of Camden County residents falling sick with this virus. All Camden County residents are urged to practice social distancing and avoid close contact with people who are sick. Put distance between yourself and other people as COVID-19 spreads throughout the State of Georgia. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick, including people with compromised immune systems and senior citizens.

Special thanks to Camden County’s businesses, event organizers, and faith-based institutions for their assistance in keeping our community safe by limiting the number of large, in-person gatherings. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends event organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States for the next eight weeks.

Please utilize reputable sources for the latest guidance on COVID-19, including the CDC, Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), and the Coastal Georgia Health District.

Georgia DPH shares additional COVID-19 guidance at its toll-free number, 1-866-PUB-HLTH (1-866-782-4584).
