[ARCHIVED] St. Marys River Water Quality Improvement Grant Continues

The $212,000 funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency and administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources—Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will continue the clean-up efforts already in progress in the Horsepen Creek area of the St. Marys River.

“We are excited to continue to work with Georgia EPD and our local partners,” said Camden County Grants Manager Julie Haigler. “Their invaluable assistance is making a positive impact on Camden County’s rivers as demonstrated by the improved water quality test results.”

Joining Camden County is the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Environmental Health Office, St. Marys Riverkeeper, St. Marys River Management Committee, and the University of Georgia. This is the third time that Camden County has received a Section 319 grant and approximately 21 septic systems will be repaired or replaced in the Browntown area of southwest Camden County. The total project cost, including in-kind services, is over $350,000.

Camden County Board of Commissioners and Staff pose with an oversized check.
