[ARCHIVED] Commissioners Blount and Clark Recognized for Service to Camden County

At their December 13, 2022, regular meeting, the Camden County Board of Commissioners took a moment to recognize outgoing Chairman Gary Blount and Commissioner Chuck Clark for their service to Camden County.

Some highlights over the course of their leadership include:

  • No general fund debt in 10 of 13 fiscal years, 
  • Two successful Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendums, 
  • Two successful Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) negotiations, and
  • Over 100 patrol vehicles for the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and 17 apparatus and ambulances for Camden County Fire Rescue. 

Many successful operational enhancements occurred throughout their 12-year service including the functional consolidation of fire rescue services, the beginning of the County’s social media use, redistricting, and the creation of the Board of Elections & Registration. More recently the Board of Commissioners approved a Job Classification and Compensation Plan, a new Curbside Collection contract, and have a fully-funded fund balance in accordance with finance policies. 

Additionally, during their tenure the following construction improvements were made:

  • Horse Stamp Church Road interchange on I-95,
  • Kingsland Bypass Phase I,
  • Opening of Lang Creek Bridge,
  • Public Safety Radio Project Phase I,
  • Juvenile Justice Building expansion,
  • Opening of Firehouse 18, and
  • Opening of Two Rivers Gun Range.  

Commissioner Gary Blount began his service as the District 4 Commissioner in January 2011 and led the Board of Commissioners as Chairman since 2021. He also served three years as Vice-Chair. Commissioner Chuck Clark began his service as the District 2 Commissioner in 2011 and spent four years seving as Vice-Chair.
