[ARCHIVED] Public Notice: Active Shooter Hoax Impacts Camden County

Earlier today the Camden County E-911 Center received notice of an active shooter situation at Camden County High School (CCHS). This call was a hoax and no shots were fired on the CCHS campus.

Local law enforcement including the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Kingsland Police Department, and St. Marys Police Department responded along with personnel from Camden County Fire Rescue, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), Georgia State Patrol, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. Additional law enforcement remained in place at CCHS as a precautionary measure.

Similar calls were received impacting students in Baldwin, Burke, Chatham, Coffee, Early, Glynn, Lowndes, Muscogee, Toombs, Ware, and Wayne counties.

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) shares that these hoax calls may be related to a national trend recently reported by the FBI. In the course of this investigation, over 400 schools across the country have received bomb threat or active shooter calls, but to date nothing has been found at any location to demonstrate the threat extends beyond the hoax call.

Camden County public safety officials take all threats seriously. Residents and visitors play a role in keeping our community safe. If you see suspicious activity, report it to the Camden County E-911 Center non-emergency number at 912-729-1442. Dial 911 for emergencies.
