[ARCHIVED] Steve Howard Appointed to NACo Environment, Energy & Land Use Steering Committee

Camden County Administrator and Spaceport Camden Executive Project Lead, Steve Howard has been appointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Environment, Energy & Land Use Steering Committee. NACo’s 31 committees, caucuses, task forces, and advisory boards help to inform national policy makers and solve problems impacting counties, boroughs, and parishes.

The Environment, Energy & Land Use Steering Committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to air, water, energy, and land use, including: water resources/management, stormwater, pesticides, air quality standards, solid, hazardous, and nuclear waste handling, transport, and disposal, national energy policy, renewable/alternative energy, alternative fuel vehicles, energy facility siting, electricity utility restructuring, pipeline safety, oil spills, superfund/brownfields, eminent domain, land use, coastal management, oceans, parks and recreation.

Over the last several years Steve Howard has led one of the most innovative and complex economic development catalyst projects in the country, Spaceport Camden. This project encompasses many of the policy issues under the jurisdiction of the Environment, Energy & Land Use Steering Committee making Howard’s experience particularly valuable to other counties across the United States. 

“I am not aware of another County Administrator that has navigated a county economic development project through the National Environmental Policy Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Georgia Coastal Management Program, as well as other state and federal agencies to receive a favorable Final Environmental Impact Statement,” said Gary Blount, Chairman of the Camden County Board of Commissioners. “Steve Howard will be an excellent resource for counties around the United States and we are pleased to be able to share his expertise with NACo and its members,” added Blount. 

The steering committee’s first meeting took place on September 8. Additional meetings are planned for 2021 and 2022.
