The Camden County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the recent obtainment of International Code Council (ICC) certifications by two members of the Planning & Development Department staff. Building Inspector Ernest “Petie” Kemp received his Residential Building Inspector certification and Planning & Development Clerk Cassandra Turpin received her Permit Technician and Zoning Inspector certifications.
“I am extremely proud of both Petie and Cassie,” said Planning & Development Director Joey Yacobacci. “They have worked diligently to study for their exams in addition to their work for Camden County. They are a credit to our department and we look forward to their continued success.”
As a certified Residential Building Inspector, Mr. Kemp is responsible for performing inspections of structures to determine compliance with the various Building Codes and Standards adopted in Camden County. At this level of certification, he is able to inspect one-and-two family dwellings, townhomes not more than three stories in height, and accessory structures. Mr. Kemp joined the Planning & Development Department as the Building Inspector in July 2020.
Since starting work in July 2019, Mrs. Turpin has been an integral member of the Planning & Development staff. As a certified Permit Technician, she is able to provide technical assistance in the issuance of construction and development permits to ensure compliance with the provisions of State and local jurisdictions' adopted development regulations and codes. A Zoning Inspector is responsible for enforcing the local zoning ordinances. This includes, but is not limited to, the permitting, development, erection, enlargement, alteration, repair, movement or removal of all buildings, structures and parcels of land in the jurisdiction.
The International Code Council is the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions that include product evaluation, accreditation, technology, training, and certification. The Code Council's codes, standards, and solutions are used to ensure safe, affordable, and sustainable communities and buildings worldwide.
The Camden County Planning & Development Department administers all codes as they relate to building and zoning in unincorporated Camden County. The office is located in the Camden County Annex Building in Kingsland.
